SAMPIBIO® Surface Sampling Solutions are designed for the effective collection of microorganisms from surfaces where swabs or contact plates are impractical or insufficient. Surface sampling allows a larger surface area to be sampled in a single action, improving recovery rates and providing more representative microbiological results.

Used extensively across food production, pharmaceutical manufacturing, environmental monitoring, and industrial hygiene programs, SAMPIBIO® surface sampling systems support routine hygiene verification, investigative sampling, and regulatory compliance. Surface sampling is particularly valuable when monitoring equipment surfaces, worktops, drains, walls, and hard-to-reach areas where residues or microorganisms may persist despite cleaning.

When to Use Surface Sampling vs ATP Testing

While ATP testing provides rapid feedback on surface cleanliness, it does not directly measure microbial presence. Surface sampling, by contrast, enables the collection of microorganisms for laboratory-based microbiological analysis, making it essential for validation, verification, and compliance testing.

Surface sampling is recommended when:

• Performing microbiological testing rather than hygiene screening
• Sampling larger surface areas
• Collecting samples for pathogen detection or indicator organisms
• Supporting HACCP, GMP, or environmental monitoring programs
• Investigating contamination events or verifying cleaning effectiveness

ATP and surface sampling are often used together, with ATP guiding immediate cleaning decisions and surface sampling confirming microbiological control.

Cellulose Sponge

Cellulose sponges provide excellent absorbency and microbial recovery, making them ideal for routine environmental monitoring across food, beverage, and pharmaceutical environments. Their soft structure allows effective sampling of flat surfaces while capturing residues and microorganisms efficiently.

Polyurethane Sponge

Polyurethane sponges offer greater durability and mechanical strength, making them suitable for rougher surfaces, larger sampling areas, or applications requiring more robust handling. These sponges maintain their structure during sampling and are well suited for challenging environments.

Cellulose Sponge

Cellulose stick-and-sponge samplers combine high absorbency with extended reach, allowing operators to safely sample hard-to-reach areas such as drains, equipment interiors, and elevated surfaces while reducing direct hand contact with the sampling area.

Polyurethane Sponge

Blue Wipe Sampling
